Andreas Paul Flückiger had a passion for numbers from an early age, and calculus, analysis and investment were always his strengths. As a young man, Andreas took his first steps on the career ladder at American Express in Basel. Eventually, he moved from Basel to Zurich to join SKA, and in 1973 fulfilled his dream of moving to the US. Despite high unemployment in the wake of the oil crisis, he was offered a position at his uncle’s company in Plymouth, Indiana. But his passion for finance and figures was to take him even further. With the support of his uncle, he moved to New York, where he worked for Laird Bissel & Meeds, Citibank NY and Northern Trust Chicago.
After three years in the US, he returned to Switzerland, where he joined Bank Leu. As head of international investment consulting and portfolio management, Andreas managed up to 40 people. He left the bank, after a client segmentation, to go to Adler & Co. Privatbank AG, which was later bought out by Luzerner Kantonalbank.
After 15 years at Adler, Andreas felt the time was right to start his own company. Together with his daughter Sabrina Pandolfino-Flückiger, he founded Advisory & Portfolio Management AG in 2009. The professional relationship between father and daughter worked very well from the start. Andreas was responsible for the reallocation of client funds, while Sabrina handled the legal and logistical demands of the company. Over the years, Andreas introduced his daughter to portfolio management, building on her previous training in the banking sector and imparting his expertise. This transfer of knowledge to the next generation proved to be very valuable and still benefits Sabrina on a daily basis.
Andreas passed away on 9 March 2013. In his memory, two of his three children continue to run the company in his spirit and in line with his beliefs and values: transparency, loyalty, customer orientation and service.
